POP! Autumnal Glory Redux! Thanks Lorraine!

Well, we've had a few changes since I first showed you the 

Fall Four Season Bathroom Redo here. 

A lot of the change is thanks to Lorraine who writes the very informative and entertaining blog called  

We are: clamco. The story of how she came up with the name is related on her blog, you should go check it out!

Anyway, she read about my shower curtain dilemma and suggested that I might like the Eddie Bauer curtain she had listed on eBay...well, I hustled right over and as you can see below...it's PERFECT!

Lorraine & Eddie Bauer, you have my undying gratitude!

 The colors and the pattern perfectly accent my little shelf that DH Noel made for me from painted iron shelf brackets that we picked up at Warrenton several years ago and left-over Corian pieces from a long-ago job he went on. 

Pear and apple decals adorn a  green wood box which is a double sided recipe box signed F. D. B. - 1971 - this is a find from years past at a sale in Fayetteville, TX in the old SPJST Hall...

sadly, no shows there anymore...

And just in case you're wondering...SPJST stands for:

 I'm just so HAPPY with this shower curtain!

It just brightens up and pulls the whole bathroom look together!

 

 I have a new tschotske...can you spot it?  Oh, very well, I'll just tell you what it is!  At the back of the shelf with the small flower note holder on top is a four-sided Seasons name board!  It is really too cute and I got it in Giddings, TX at the Rejuvenation Thrift Shop for half-price...fifty cents!  All righty then!

 

 Now you have a good view of the fluorescent lamp Noel spotted at Warrenton maybe 5 years ago.  It's newer than the original one to the right, which I do not have a photo of...maybe later.

Antiques Weekend at Warrenton, TX AND a Giveaway!

This is the last weekend of the Warrenton - Round Top and all other points around and between - of the Antiques Weekend Extravaganza!

And only the second time HH Noel and I have been out there this time...let me tell you...it's been HOT!  

Anyhoo...we started the day by parking at The Little House on the Hill which is where I used to have a space probably 8 years ago.  I always start out by thinking that I'd really like to do the show again...it usually takes maybe 45 minutes before I'm thinkin' ~ what was I thinkin'!?!

 Anyhoo... we then instantly made our way to The Legal Tender Saloon

 for lunch...

whereupon we ordered ONE  (because they are so huge) Chicken Salad Sandwich on wheat.  Sorry, no picture because the sandwich was instantly consumed by us.  Along with Fritos, dill pickles and onions. Yum!

As you can see, they have a pretty extensive menu for the sort of wing-ding that Warrenton has become.  I'm happy to report that the owners have opened up a full time restaurant right outside of La Grange where hopefully I'll have a chance to eat something other than chicken or egg salad since that's all I ever eat there.

Anyhoo, it was delicious! Yum again!

If you've never experienced an Antiques Weekend here in Central Texas, you might seriously want to put this twice yearly event on your bucket list...it's multiple towns and miles of good, and I mean, really good stuff! Plus some really really I don't know what, stuff...

 Hull Little Red Riding Hood, the rare one because of the lacy floral border, so the proprietor of this shop said...Only $295.00, BUT he'll let me have it for only $150.00...nope! Doesn't match my pocketbook or decor!

Autumn Arrives in the Four Seasons Bathroom

Here it is!  Autumnal Glory!  Fall is here at last!

The  Dhuri Indian  rugs are what gives us the color scheme 

for this time of year.

The blue fishes in the Summertime bathroom here, have been replaced by this trio of pretty brass fishes that I found  in a Houston thrift store at half-price, so that would be ten dollars...

We love our Gary Larsen in the Library!

A pivotal point in our decorating is the change-out of the picture over the "throne".  This is a print by an artist named Carl L. Blonner.  He was popular at the same time as Charles Dana Gibson, who painted the Gibson Girls.  I can't find out much about him, but I'll keep looking.  I like his style and I found this at Canton for five bucks a few years ago.

Need. More. Towels.

This little plaque is an antique postcard reproduced on a thin piece of wood.  It was made by my friends Troy and Rob of Rue Chic out of Dallas.  

They used to show at Warrenton during the Antique Weekends, but not for the past few years.
  

I wonder where they are now?

Now... I need your advice. 

 You see, I don't like the shower curtain I chose...too brown...too dark...

Just. don't. like. it.

Vintage Plant Stand Extraordinaire!

I know I said I'd post right after we got back from Warrenton...only some few three weeks or so ago...  Well, I went out of town and then I got sick and then I had to get well and so now I am well and so here's the post!

Thanks to the great and quick eye of DD Julia, look what we scored!  Isn't it beautiful?  And the price was right!  After we walked all over the Bar W Field and all compass points North - South & West - we headed East towards Clutter,  Xcess and Cole's - in my opinion the priciest places in Warrenton and I almost never buy anything there...so we're wandering down the giant row of Xcess and she spies the plant stand...
Oh, I don't even want to know how much...but I talked her into going and asking
(because she's just so cute!) ...she comes back...$20.00... !!!

Noel says, "It's heavy, isn't it"?

Uh, yeah...

Now, look at this concrete planter.

My husband Noel's maternal grandmother...Gramma Breaker, made all sorts of stone mosaic pieces and stepping stones during a period of about four years from 1950 thru 1953 when she lived on Barbee Street in Houston.  The family moved there probably in 1910 or so and Gramma moved to the Robley Street house in Pasadena in 1965 after the City of Houston condemned the houses on Barbee St. to make way for Hwy 59 thru downtown Houston.  The story is that those families held the freeway off for about 5 years before they were moved out and the big old houses demolished.  I remember when that branch of the freeway just stopped and then 59 ran right down into the upper Westheimer area and into downtown back in the late 60's which is when I got to Houston.

A small table made from an upside down planter for the base imbedded in a square made from heart insets molded out of candy boxes.  Gramma Breaker was a very creative person and a wonderful gardener I'm told.  I never met her, she died in 1979 and I didn't meet Noel until 1987.  But I've lived with lots of the things she created and left behind. I've been fortunate!

 Here is the back porch at the Texas Treasure Box.  You can see some of the stepping stones Gramma  made that we used in making our path.  We have hundreds of these stones and lots of paths.  One day I'll just take you on a tour!

PS - As you can imagine, it took us months to move to Pasadena to Ellinger...

A note, if you click on the pictures they enlarge (you probably know that already) but on the first pic of the plant stand you can see two of small planters Gramma made.  One has giant shells from Galveston imbedded in the sides and the other has rocks she picked up along side of a railroad track that ran near Barbee.  She used bottles, broken combs and all sorts of found things in her artwork.  I will have to make a gallery...

The Thrill of the Hunt!

Today we are going back out to Warrenton and possibly Round Top to look for a couple of things we must have are in hopes of finding...
The first is a circular plant stand that I've seen hundreds of examples of during my years of trips out to the land of antique wonders...I mean, I've practically had to kick them out of my way in years past.  One is needed to replace the wood slat plant stand that I found on the side of the road down in Houston about 11 years ago...it's done me well.

Unhappily it is now disintegrating on my back porch and if Noel hadn't screwed it to the stucco wall, it would have fallen down by now.

Now of course that I want a circular one, they are no where to be found in the size that I must have..there were plenty of 22" to 26" diameters but I need at least a 36" diameter to fill the space on the wall.  Unless, of course I want to re-arrange everything...I think not.  Let me know if you see one of these, okay?
